This is such a treat, Officer, Josh Rodriguez with the Murrieta Police Department and the man that completely turned the Explorer program around was our presenter today. He brought along one of his Explorer success stories, Lieutenant Brandon Reyes. As a previous Vocational Service Award recipient (2017), I am very familiar with him. His commitment and focus have enabled more than 30 participants the opportunity to determine if they have a future in law enforcement. The City of Murrieta has put their money where their mouth is in retaining its “safe city” status. They have put in place two Explorer to Cadet positions that will not be open to the general public. Ultimately it will parlay into them becoming a Murrieta Police Department officer.

The video simulations that they shared showed that this program is no walk in the park. It takes true grit, focus, and the ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations. Brandon attested to how real the simulations are. As a matter of fact, Brandon is in line to be promoted from Explorer to Cadet shortly. A feat that makes him very happy.
